A woman brought the first diamond ring to The Salvation Army after her pastor preached that everyone can give and everyone can give more. Then, on Christmas Eve, diamond rings were dropped into red-bell- ringer kettles in Mount Pleasant and West Ashley.
That put more than a little sparkle into Christmas in the Lowcountry for people in need this year. The rings joined an unusual outpouring of valuable items dropped into Salvation Army kettles across the nation. The agency is a Christian shelter and human services ministry.
“Folks are seeing there are others around who need help,” said Capt. Tom Richmond of The Salvation Army. “(Unusual donations) happen, and it’s happened more frequently this year.”
Among items donated nationwide were 40 gold coins — including 14 Swiss gold francs dropped into a kettle in Libertyville, Ill., and five gold Krugerrands in Frederick, Md. — according to CNNMoney. those 19 coins alone have a total value of $11,000.
Gold coins tend to show up in the kettles every year, but with the price of gold at record highs, the donations were remarkable, the report said.
Also found in kettles have been a set of gold teeth in Fort Myers, Fla., and a $5,000 diamond ring wrapped in a $1 bill in Spokane, Wash.
One of the rings dropped into the kettles here also was wrapped in a $1 bill. The other was wrapped in a note. The three rings have not been evaluated yet.
Richmond said the woman who came by with the ring didn’t want to be identified or talk about her donation. “She said she would rather see God get the glory,” he said.
The rings were part of a wider “Secret Santa” movement in the country, as Richmond sees it, including people paying off layaway debts.
The local Salvation Army chapter had more volunteers and received more in the kettles than last year, a total of $188,000, he said, despite a downturn in giving that other helping agencies experienced.
“We’re here. We’re here to help, and we’ve been here to help since 1903 or 1904,” he said.

3 robbed in Rock Hill home invasion

Police are investigating an armed robbery and burglary in Rock Hill Thursday in which a woman and three armed men entered a home while residents were home and stole more than $1,300 worth of belongings.
According to one of the men who lives at the residence on Innsbrook Common Circle, an unknown woman knocked on the door and asked for another unknown person, according to a Rock Hill Police report.
The resident who answered the door told her he did not recognize the name. The woman then stepped aside and three unknown men armed with handguns ran into the apartment and started yelling for the three residents to get down on the floor.
The suspects then ransacked the residence, the report said.
They took a Play Station 3, two Play Station video games, cash, keys, cell phones and a South Carolina ID card.
The suspects made the victims go into the bathroom before fleeing the scene.
The victims described the suspects as being three black men between the ages of 18-25. two were tall and one was short, and one had either gold teeth or braces. they were all wearing masks that did not cover their noses.
Investigators were able to lift some fingerprints from the scene, the report said.

last night I was with Sean Kingston to give him his grills finally and work out a deal on a new piece, he had to take off to film some show make your mark? and I dont know anything about the show except that its a disney show and he and selena gomez are the judges so I didnt go last night.
today, I met up with Sean to finish up some business. then headed to work. I was supposed to be at a show for my bros Far East Movement in Long Beach, but a few set backs with work held me back
so I get a call from Sean to meet the Prince of Dubai (yes no joke) and, so I drove all the way to the set of the show and chilled for a little bit. after while, I see Selena and a lot of disney tv actors all around and I guess there was a meet and greet? I dont know I make jewelry for a lot of celebrities and athletes, so I dont ever get star struck. I think Prince and Michael Jackson changed the way I act around famous people. so anyways. I see Selena walk by me and Sean starts to talk to her, I hear some small talk and she says she misses Justin a lot, etc etc Sean says hey Ben have you met Selena before? I said no but its cool. I dont think shes gonna like me because I made JBs halloween costume grills. so he introduces me anyways along with Seans manager Jen and Seans like, Selena, you know BEN I said, she prolly does, but shes not gonna like me and then Selena says ohhhh I dont like you! youre the one who made Justins grill huh? I said yeah.. does he wear it? Selena said YES! he definitely wears it! (stone face towards me) and Im thinking to myself like damn. shes actually really sweet though, I can tell lol so she says lets play a prank on Justin. and I agreed (why not right?) lets take a pic and then send the guys the pic and under it say guess whos getting a grill? so I grabbed my jewelry bag which has my jewels and mold kits for grills etc in there. so I had Seans Manager take a pic of us and I sent it to Kenny, Alfredo, Ryan and Justin.
it was around 7:30pm in mexico so I didnt expect to get a call or text back because I know theyre on the road and on tour.. 30 minutes later. Kenny hits me like no Way! Lol I forget to reply back to him. so my phone rings after I dont reply back. sure enough its Kenny and hes like bro, wtf? cmon? for real? Im in mexico, if you could see my face right now. whats going on? whos paying for her grill. Im like, bro shes a millionaire, she can do what she likes lol. so hes like mannnnn, this is gonna cause some trouble and I know were gonna be blamed for it if she gets a grill lmao. are you kidding me? Im just laughing thinking about how crazy he looks right now.
so meanwhile, I tell Selena and shes cracking up. I didnt do anything else, I didnt say it was a joke or anything a few hours later, I get a text from Justin saying call me and Im like. damn, hes gonna be mad or tell me to take it down.
I wonder if he talked to Selena yet. fuck it, so I call him. he says cmon bro. is she really getting a grill? (Ive talked to him enough on the phone to know his voice and different sounds, from regular to really happy) and he was definitely concerned like please say its a joke. so Im thinking to myself, like damn, I know in the last 3 hours hes had to have talked to his girl and he had to ask her. I cant believe shes really stringing this little prank along for so long. shes really cool for playing the joke for real! haha
after a while, I couldnt take it. I cant do that to my little homey lol, so I called him back again and told him naw bro, cmon man, your girl is NOT getting a grill. she just wanted to play a joke on you. I didnt think she had it in her lol. all G, he laughed, I laughed. I let his and her fans know on twitter it was just for fun.
PS: Selena is a really nice girl, and the whole JB camp is always swaggerific with me. I got nothing but love for them, all great peoples.. I dont know if after reading this, this makes any sense but it was just a small prank played on a prankster
