LONDON -

With Mineweb’s annual gold price prediction competition officially closing Friday, there is just a day left to get your entries in in theory.  in practice we will be collating the results over the weekend so can probably squeeze a few more in if they come in by Sunday ready for us to go ahead with publication on Monday.

We have had over 70 entries and the averages of all the picks to date are as follows:  Gold price high – $2228, low – $1487, year-end $1996, average for the year – $1837.  Obviously Mineweb readers remain fairly bullish on the prospects for the yellow metal in the year ahead – but interestingly the predicted average price for the year is not wildly different from that suggested by most big bank analysts in recent statements, which in itself has been a remarkably bullish position for the banks to take given their usually very conservative nature.

It is interesting too that gold is beginning to become a talking point in the U.S. Presidential race with Newt Gingrich apparently joining Ron Paul in saying he believes gold should have a role in the U.S. and global monetary system.   Anything that thus raises gold’s profile could beneficial in terms of realisation of investment potential – or even recognition of gold as an asset class.

For your entries, you may cut and paste the form below (Note – the full tabulation will be published after the competition closing date, but not the email addresses supplied):
